Coates Winery is very small, producing only 300 cases per year of premium red wine. They have two labels; Promesse21 (reserve) and Pont21 (primary). Both are made from grapes sourced from premium vineyards in Eastern Washington.
It's exciting to see talented winemaker, Philip Coates in the very beginning stages of creating a rockstar winery, which is currently located in the basement of a commercial building just past the 21st Street bridge (pont is French for bridge), above Coates Chiropractic. They source grapes from the touted Wahluke Slope AVA and finish the Pont21 bottles with hand printed artisan labels from Beautiful Angle, a local print shop.
The only wine for sale at this time is the 2004 Promesse21, but the 2006 Pont21 is due to be released in Nov 2009. Both are delicious and very well priced. Coates is happy to host small private events.
